Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bioclimatic pergola?

Bioclimatic pergolas are precision engineered aluminium structures that feature motorised, adjustable aluminium louvres or retractable fabric roofs that regulate light, airflow and weather protection to achieve all year-round comfort. Designed to suit both residential and commercial settings, these pergolas can be configured as freestanding, wall-mounted or hanging (no posts/legs just the roof as long as 3 sides have somewhere to fix to).

Planning permission for a bioclimatic pergola is decided case-by-case by each local council, and commercial hospitality installs are treated very differently from domestic ones. However, don’t let this deter you as getting permission granted is easier than normal brick and mortar extensions as these structures can appear as a shelter for an outside license you may already have.

Absolutely. We have seen many clients at a later date get an illuminated logo on elevations of the structure, assuming their manufacturers have cleared it as safe. Our gutter beams are around 20cm in height allowing the integration of wiring and electrics to be concealed easier. We have also seen people wrap glass accessories selected with a branded film.

As an expansion of your space, you can now increase your capacity all year-round. Instead of having to wait and depend on our unreliable UK weather to pull out the umbrellas and chairs, you now can provide a space for customers that can be fully adjusted to each weather.

This can depend on the scale of the project and weather conditions. The expansion of the premises can be completed within a few or several days, without disrupting the restuarant’s operations, and at half the cost of traditional construction.

Our pergolas are powder coated 100% aluminium so standard cleaning methods of water or pressure washing will suffice with regular checks on the roof for any debris build-up. Very minimal maintenance is required, there is no special servicing. In terms of accessories, this comes down to frequency of use but, again only simple cleaning and basic checks.

Elevate your outdoor space with zip blinds, fixed panels, glazing, and sliding shutter systems. We also integrate perimeter and roof lighting, infrared heating, and smart controls – creating a fully tailored solution designed for comfort, style, and year-round enjoyment.

Pergolas have various components and accessories that require mains power such as an automated roof, electric zip side blinds, LED lighting and infrared heaters. Based on previous pergola installations a 13 amp power supply has been adequate.

Once your pergola has been installed you will need the services of a qualified electrician to make the final connection into your mains supply and issue the appropriate certification. We can quote for this if preferred.

We’ve installed many pergolas on different surfaces and part of our site survey is to determine the suitability of the proposed location it is to be fitted. We need a level surface that will allow us to bolt down the vertical posts of the pergola to provide a secure base for the entire structure, due to being fully bespoke there are ways around unlevel grounds. If you struggle to arrange this then we can quote for this.
